MECCA 2017: A Suspension Gathering

Hosted by HOOKED Suspension Team

This year’s event will be in the same amazing venue with the same amazing vibe. As always, we focus this event on welcoming everyone in the suspension community, from seasoned practitioners, and those looking to learn as well as performers, enthusiasts and anyone at all interested in Human Suspension.

$250 is the early registration fee for MECCA this year. Payments will be due at the time of registration.
You will have until August 31st to register under the early registration rate. After that time, the fee will be raised slightly. This is not "punishment" for being late. This is to offset the difference in price for ordering supplies and things on short notice.

We will be offering some new things for this years event. Here is a list of some of what we have in store for you.

Venue

  • The venue for this event is The Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, IA. Council Bluffs is across the river from Omaha, NE. This space has 28ft. ceilings and over 25,000ft of floor space. Last year we had 11 points up with room for plenty more. Teams are invited to bring cubes as there is also plenty of space for them.

Hooks and Gear

  • We will only be suplying hooks in very limited numbers this year. So PLEASE plan on bringing hooks IF YOU CAN.
  •
  • There WILL be several vendors on-site selling hooks and gear if anyone is interested in purchasing gear.
  •
  • Teams are asked to bring rigging gear, including rope and pullies, slings, rig plates, carabiners, swivels, spinning beams, and any other hardware you feel you may need. Keep in mind that with 28ft ceilings you will need a 200ft rope for any triple wheel blocks and 150ft for two wheels. Rigline will be provided by the event, however if you have multiple intricate suspensions planned, it may help to bring some of your own.
  • We will be installing a gear recognition plan to make sure all gear brought to the event will be returned to its rightful owner before the end of the event.
  • We will also have access to a scissor lift the ENTIRE weekend and will be able to add/remove rigging points as needed.

Accomodations

  • We have found through past experience that booking through the hotels can be less expensive if booked directly through places like Expedia, Travelocity and the like, so please just book that way to save some money.
  •
  • The closest hotel and the one we have primarily used in the past, is the Country Inn and Suites (the same hotel as previous years), 17 Arena Way, Council Bluffs, IA 51501.  This Hotel is connected to the venue but is a separate business. The hotel offers a free breakfast, an indoor pool/hottub, a workout room and free wifi. http://www.countryinns.com/council-bluffs-hotel-ia-51501/iacbluff

  •
  •
  • A second hotel is Microtel Inn & Suites, 2141 S 35th St, Council Bluffs, IA 51501, (712) 256-2900. This hotel is within comfortable walking distance (less than 1/2 mile, you can see it from the venue). Shuttles WILL NOT be provided. This hotel also offers free breakfast, indoor pool, workout center and free wifi. http://www.microtelinn.com/hotels/iowa/council-bluffs/microtel-inn-council-bluffs/hotel-overview
  •

Air Travel Info

  • The airport code for Omaha Eppley is (OMA). This is the airport you want to fly into. The closest airport other than that is Kansas City, which is a three hour drive or Des Moines, which is a 2 hour drive. Neither of which we can make pick-ups from.

Food

  • The event will be providing snacks and refreshments throughout the weekend, but not meals. However, we are working with a local food vendor to serve food at the event on all 4 days. There will be options available for Vegetarians and Vegans. They will be at the venue throughout the day, and will have special pricing for the event.
  •

After-Party

  • The afterparty this year will be ALL DAY MONDAY and is going to be an outdoor BBQ at a nearby State Park. Shuttles will be provided. We will accomodate ALL diets. We are working on the logistics of SOME oudoor suspensions but until we get more details, this is just a plan.

Most classes this year will be tought in a "workshop" format. Classes will have a short opening lecture followed by breaking down into small groups for hands-on training with mutiple instructors.
